Next workshop on Saturday 30th July at Derby QUAD

Maybe our penultimate workshop?
We are nearly there folks! After starting initial filming for the project nearly a year ago we have nearly accumulated all of the film  we need to reach our goal of one frame of 16mm film for every metre in the distance between Land's End and Jon O'Groats.
We're therefore very pleased and excited to be able bring the workshops to Derby for the first time this saturday at QUAD. The workshop will run from 11.00 until 15.30 with a screening of the film made just after 15.45. Looking forward to seeing you there if you can make it...

Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th July at Manchester Mela

We were very excited to bring Unravel to the Manchester Mega Mela  which lived up to its promise to be a brilliant two days, as one of the biggest of Britain's Melas - celebrating South Asian culture and influenced arts and music. Luckily Manchester's infamous rain held off to let the sun shine all weekend and we had a great time in the Arts & Crafts & Dance Marquee  alongside stalls from the Whitworth Art Gallery, The Musuem of Science and Industry, and loads of great workshops including face paints galore,  Rangoli, Henna, traditional Indian Puppetry and Bollywood dancing plus music from the five nations of South Asia - India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Nepal.

We made over twenty minutes of film over the weekend and there was an endless demand for live loops from the many young participants who took part. There was such a great atmosphere and everyone we met was having a great time with people having travelled from Preston, Hebden Bridge and afar to come and celebrate the vibrancy of traditional and contemporary South Asian cultures. Big thanks to Suhail Khan and to the Mela's organisers for inviting us and for looking after us so well over the weekend - it was a total pleasure where we met some great people and made a stunning film to our near-ending project.

Thursday 14th July at Piccadilly Community Centre

We ran a workshop at Piccadilly Community Centre which  is 'in the space previously occupied by' Hauser Wirth Gallery.  Make sure before it changes back again after the 30th July. More text to follow.

Friday 8th July at Tate Britain

Friday was undoubtedly a very special day for us, as Unravel ran a day's workshop at one of our most prestigious venues on the tour - Tate Britain.  We were working with the Community and Education team to be part of the South West Festival, celebrating the local community of people living in the surrounding Pimlico area and further afield. We were delighted to find out we had our own brochure printed by the Tate that gave everyone a map detailing the events of the day which were seperated into three distinct spaces - one room with tables full of film, another specifically for 'live loops', and (most impressively) a screening space in the main hall of the Tate in the North Duveens Gallery at 2pm.

All five members of Unravel travelled down to London to run the workshop and it was a fantastic day for all of us where we had some great participants and were joined by old friends such as our tutor from the RCA and celebrated film maker, Nicky Hamlyn, for the screening.

Having the film screened in the main hall was especially great, as it allowed the participants to enjoy seeing their work immediately shown in one of the most renowned galleries in the world - turning them into bonafide artists and film makers! We finished the day visiting the current exhibitions of Vorticism and Water Colour, as well as very interesting display of early works by members of the band Throbbing Gristle. Thanks so much to everyone who came and also to everyone who helped this day happen. We had a truly memorable day.

Live interview with Chris on Manchester's allfm tonight.

Just a quick update, but after friday's awesome day running a workshop at Tate Britain and then a night in Dalston seeing seminal film maker and artist Guy Sherwin perform next to amazing bands such as Leeds' Beards, Chris will be interviewed live on Manchester's Allfm by Barney Doodlebug.

This week at Tate Britain and the Deutsche Bank Awards 2011!

On Monday 4th July we will be at the 2011 Deutsche Bank Awards celebrating this years winners at the London Contemporary Dance School. 

On Friday (8th July) we will be running a workshop at Tate Britain, perhaps our most prolific venue on the entire tour. This workshop should prove to be a busy day as it coincides with the South West Festival which annually celebrates the local community and so we will be creating the days film in two separate rooms - one with tables full of films and another with live loops for people to create instant animations.
The day will run from 10am - 1.30pm with a screening scheduled to take place at 2pm in the North Duveens of the Gallery. Hope to see you there!

PS. If you're reading this before 17.00 on sunday 3rd july you still have time to see this years Graduate Show at the Royal College of Art and is well worth the effort to get there.
